Notary Training and Updates
Effective January 1, 2025

Notary Publics shall complete GSCCCA Educational Training Class each term (must be completed within 30 days prior to appointment/reappointment.​​​

Criminal History / Background Checks Required for New Notary Publics & Reappointments (must be completed within 30 days prior to
appointment/reappointment).

​A notary public shall maintain a written or electronic journal which shall include an entry for each notarial act performed at the request of a self-filer. Each such entry shall include the name of the self-filer; the self-filer's address; the self-filer's telephone number; the date, time, and location of notarization; the type of government issued photo identification document presented by the self-filer, unless the identity of the self-filer was confirmed based on personal knowledge; elements of such identification document, if applicable, including any identifying number; the self-filer's signature; and the type of document presented for notarization.

Training Requirement Information
​
The Notary Public Training course is available to the public at no cost, to provide training regarding the duties and responsibilities of notaries public. In addition, a Notary Final Exam is offered for a cost of $2. Upon successfully passing the Notary Final Exam, a certificate of completion is issued.

Background/Criminal History Requirement Information:
​Your Background Check must have been run within 30 days of submitting your application to the Clerk’s Office. Background checks may be obtained from the Eatonton Police Department, Monday – Friday, from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, at a cost of $30.00.

Upon completing and printing your Notary Application online, you will present the signed application and include a copy of your training certificate and background check to the Clerk's Office.
